Kodak xl10 super 8

I bought a super 8 movie camera last night at the thrift store on a whim. I know buying electronics at a thrift store is a stupid idea. Especially cameras (you never know what kind of hell they have been through).

The thing looks brand new. And it had the original unused film still in it. I figured for 3 bucks I couldn’t pass up giving it a shot (literally). So I threw some batteries in it, (4 double A’s to be exact) and pressed the record button. Looking through the view finder I see a little orange light come on and the film starts rolling. Woot! Works great.

It only shoots an hour of film and after doing a little research on the web. I found that the film that is in it is really rare. G160 is hard to find now days and from what I could tell on the internet there are only like 3 places in the U.S. that develop it. Also, this film doesn’t last long unless frozen. You can still buy film for it. It’s about 20 bucks for 50′ of film, which is about an hours worth. Pretty sure it uses any super 8 film, and I think I can get it for cheaper.

The camera doesn’t have any audio recording and the only things you can adjust is switching between natural/artificial light. I have no problem with that.

Also, I thought it might be worth some money since it was in such good shape. I found that its probably worth about 3 bucks anywhere online.

If you don’t know what super 8 is, look at some of these youtube videos using it

in the book, house of leaves, there is enormous detail on a fictional movie titled ‘the navidson record’, which was filmed using HI8 cameras. i’ll bet this is something similar.

    i’m eating a cheeseburger and i think i should have gotten a chili-cheeseburger instead.
